Let’s face it, avocados are everywhere! Despite the popularity of making a healthy avo toast, it is possible to go overboard. Let’s light on four common mistakes when making avocado toast and how to fix them.
Going Overboard With The Avocado
Avocado is considered a ‘good’ fat for us to consume, but it should be considered that we eat it in moderation. Too much avocado on your toast will add unnecessary amounts of fats and calories to your meal, so try sticking to one-quarter of an avocado for each slice of toast.

Tip: Remember, too much of something can be good for nothing! Try sticking to a quarter of an avocado per slice of toast.
Choosing Your Bread
Just like any other toast that’s available out there, the bread you choose will determine how healthy your avocado toast will be. In fact, it plays a big role in the overall nutrition profile for your meal.

Tip: Try to avoid white bread and other super-processed varieties, and you should opt more for whole-wheat bread whenever possible. If you’re gluten-free, choose one that’s high in fibre. Not only is it good for your heart, but it will also help keep you full longer!
Picking Your Proteins
Although avocado and bread have about the same amount of protein, roughly 10 grams, try to top up your protein content to make it a balanced meal, that’s closer to 15 to 20 grams of protein for breakfast.

Tip: Pair your avocado toast with one to two eggs, a glass of milk, and some Greek yoghurt.
Too Many Toppings
The best part about making avocado toast is that it starts with a blank slate. You can choose just about any toppings you like to match your taste. While we do love an upgrade, don’t go overboard. Going overboard with toppings on your toast can make a healthy food not-so-healthy.

Tip: Choose healthier toppings such as seeds, tomatoes, herbs and spices but go easy on other richer fixings like cheese, beef bacon and olive oil. So, remember to choose your ingredients wisely. Good luck!
